Abstract

275,224. Lebensart, S. July 28, 1926, [Convention date]. Projectile fuzes. - Two inertia members N, Z are mounted between concave seats G, H1, H2, so as to be moved towards each other bv the shock of discharge, or throwing in any direction, and are adapted, when this occurs, to displace a coiled spring ring R from the safe position over a conical ring W on to a conical part Z2 of the member Z. During flight, the spring ring contracts, and passes down the conical parts Z2, Z1 of the member Z to the conical surface VI of a sleeve V. This movement of the spring ring forces the members N, Z away from each other back to their original position, and this is made to operate a friction igniter for a time fuze (not shown) or to arm a percussion fuze which, as shown, may be constituted by the same pair of members N, Z, provided for this purpose with a firing pin A and a percussion cap B. When the members N, Z approach each other on discharge, the spring ring R abuts against a shoulder Z<3> on the member Z, preventing the firing pin A reaching the percussion cap B; but on impact, the ring R, having passed down to the surface V<1> of the sleeve V, leaves the members N. Z free to complete their approach to make the firing pin A strike the percussion cap B. During this approach, the spring ring R drops over the edge V2 of the sleeve V on to the conical part N5 of the member N; and if the percussion fuze missfires, the spring ring afterwards rides down the conical part N5, and by bearing against the edge V2 of the sleeve V forces the member Z awav from the member N. Finally, the spring ring lodges itself between the end V2 of the sleeve V and the shoulder N8 of the member N. Henceforth, the members N, Z can no longer approach each other, and the fuze is disarmed. Premature shock immediately on or after discharge also disarms the fuze. Such a shock causes the spring ring R to jump over the edge W2 of the conical ring W and over the shoulder Z3 into a groove Z4 from which it can no longer be dislodged and wheret it prevents the firing pin A reaching the percussion cap B. Specification 260,318 is referred to.
