Abstract

275,218. Soc. Anon. du Cligno-Signal. (Assignees of Schott, A., Cuendet, R., and Besson, R.). July 30, 1926, [Convention date]. Switches, actuating ; ratchet actuation ; retarding devices ; momentarycontact switches; retractive switches with h compound movement. Relates to a signalling installation for vehicles. A single actuating lever 92, 93, pivoted on a shaft 58, carries a toothed sector 61 which engages a wheel 62 loose on a shaft 59. The wheel 62 carries a ratchet 63 the pawl 64 of which is pivoted on a wheel 66 on the shaft 59, the wheel 66 engaging on the one hand with a wheel 68 on a shaft 69 carrying an insulating cam 53, and on the other hand with the driving wheel 67 of a retarding device which may be a fly-wheel, shown diagrammatically in Fig. 3. The part 93 of the actuating lever is pivoted on a pin 94 in the part 92 which carries an insulating support 95 for three terminals 96 - - 98. The part 92 has three notches 99 corresponding to the three terminals so as to retain the part 93, by means of a spring-pressed ball 101, in the position to which it is set. The part 93 carries the contact arm 102 and also two arms carrying rollers 107, adapted, when the part 93 is moved to one side or the other, to engage the casing 108, the latter having guide surfaces to return the part to its median position after operation. In operation, the device 92, 93 is moved downwards, Fig. 1, and the sector 61 allows the contacts 103, 104 to close so making the circuit for the signal corresponding to the position of the part 93. When the device 92, 93 is released, the spring 70 restores it to its original position slowly, under the retarding action of the fly-wheel, and at the same time the ratchet 63 rotates the shaft 59 so that the cam 53 allows the circuit through the signalling lamp to be repeatedly made and broken at the contact blades 51, 52 until the original position is reached. The switching movement laterally by the device 93 and the vertical movement of the device as a whole take place simultaneously, and the arrangement allows the substitution of an incompleted signal by a fresh one. The movements of the part 93 can be controlled by shaping the opening in the casing 108, and the opening can be closed by sliding pieces moving simultaneously with the actuating lever. During the return movement, the contacts 103, 104 are arranged to be separated before the part 93 is restored to its original position.
