Abstract
274,916. Liversedge, A. F., and Downs, C. Jan. 26, 1926. Extrusion machines.-In worm screw presses for compressing and moulding meal &c. in order to prevent clogging of the screw, the lands other than the first are provided with grooves, notches or flats to allow excess material to work backwards. As shown, meal is fed through a die-plate B from a casing A by a worm D having the convolution formed with recesses d<1> with the exception of the first convolution D<1>. The recesses may he aligned, as shown, or otherwise disposed- The coil D<1> may be strengthened if desired. According to the Provisional Specification, only the first convolution is a working fit in the casing or liner, the remaining coils being of smaller diameter having a rearward taper with or without grooves, flats &c., alternatively the casing may be polygonal. To ensure adequate feed, two or three near coils may be of increased pitch.
