Abstract

Casings.-Totally enclosed electrical devices, such as motors and switchgear, are provided with ventilating and pressure relief means comprising a sinuous or zigzag passage in the machine casing, the passage having a series of definite dust settling chambers along its path. As shown, the passage E is formed together with a removable side-plate a, the dust-settling chambers e' being located along the lower series of bends. A flame, barrier plug F is mounted' at the inner end of the passage. A gauze or a chemical filter may be provided at the plug or in the passage. A form of plug is shown in Fig. 5 and comprises a number of eccentrically arranged cylinders f secured around a rod f<3> by a split pin f<1> and rivet f<2>.
