274,406. Electrolytic Zinc Co. of Australasia, Ltd. July 17, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Density soparators; discharging.-A rotary drum b for the separation of solids from liquids contains rotating vanes i with which are associated helical worms j i for feeding the separated particles axially towards the discharge end. The spindle d of the drum is hollow and carries the driving pulley f and gear wheel o. The vanes i and worms j are attached to a core h on a spindle g which passes through the hollow spindle d and carries a gearwheel k. The wheels k, o engage wheels l, n on a countershaft so that the vanes and worms revolve slowly relatively to the drum.' The material is introduced through the pipe a and is spread by the tapered end of the core h. The solids are thrown to the wall and carried downward by the worms j to the outlet r which is fitted with a plug r<1> having a hole of suitable size, while the liquid is discharged through the opening p at the upper end. The drum is enclosed by a casing q with bands s which terminate in close proximity to the bowl. Baffles x prevent swirling in the top chamber of the casing from which the liquid is taken through the pipe w; the solids are collected from the bottom chamber through the pipe t.
