Abstract
273,781. Petroleum Chemical Corporation, and Stevenson, E. P. March 24, 1926. Resistance furnaces.-Cracking of hydrocarbon vapour is effected by passage through a tube divided into sections, each of which has a separate heater operated so that despite exothermic or endothermic reactions the temperature of the gas is maintained the same in all the sections. The cracking tube passes through a casing 90 divided by partition 91 into sections, each of which contain an electric resistance 92, connected through an ammeter 93 and variable resistance 94 with the supply mains. Pyrometers 96 pass into each section of the tube, and the heating is arranged so that all the pyrometers except that in the first section register the same temperature, which may be 595-605‹ C.
