Abstract

273,733. Sorriguieta, P. July 1, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Drawings to Specification. Two-stroke-cycle engines; pumps, piston; cylinders, ports of.-In an engine with coaxial pump and power cylinders the two pistons are connected by a hollow rod, which serves as a reservoir for the charge from the pump. The two cylinders may be of the same diameter or the pump piston may be larger than the power piston. In some forms the two pistons work inside a sleeve valve. which controls admission of the charge of the pump, exhaust from the power cylinder and it may be transfer of the charge around the piston head from the reservoir to the combustion chamber. Mixture may be drawn from a carburettor, or where heavy fuel is to be used it is sprayed with air into the pump during the first part of the suction stroke; thereafter air is drawn in from the atmosphere and at the end of the stroke air under pressure is forced in from an independent pump, the whole of this charge being compressed on the power stroke. A non-return valve in the pump piston head may admit the charge from the pump to the hollow piston rod, and it may enter the combustion chamber past a similar valve in the power piston. Poppet valves may be used to control the pump inlet and cylinder exhaust, the sleeve valve being dispensed with. In a V-type engine with twin cylinders having a common combustion chamber and intercommunicating pump chambers, four inlet valves to the pump and four exhaust valves are used two to each cylinder. These work in pairs one on each cylinder and are rocked from half speed shafts. Two pairs of sparking plugs are provided, working in pairs alternately. Driving-gear.-In a two-cylinder engine a gudgeon connects the two piston rods and drives on to the crank shaft through one central connecting rod.
