Power-generating systems. - In a system wherein an internal-combustion engine 1 drives a compressor 2 which circulates steam or other fluid to operate an engine 9, high and lowpressure accumulators 6, 3 being arranged on the delivery and suction side of the compressor, the pressures in the accumulators are so interrelated by automatic valves subjected to the pressures in each that the engine 1 and compressor 2 run at constant efficiency between certain permissible pressure variations. In the apparatus 14 shown enlarged in Fig. 2, the valve face 16 is subjected to the pressure in accumulator 3 and the plunger end 18, to the pressure in accumulator 6. A rise in total pressure on the valve 15 due to the accumulators causes the valve to rise against the spring resistance and the low-pressure accumulator to blow off. A second valve is similarly adapted to control a discharge from the high-pressure to the low-pressure accumulator. Water is preferably fed to the accumulator 3 from the accumulator 6 when charging.
