273,616. Webmetal Joints, Ltd., and Mills, J. S. March 14, 1027. Joint-making packing. - Packing for fluid pressure joints such as described in Specification 273,560, [Class 122 (iii), Steamengines, Kinds &c.], is formed by pressing a sheet of metal c e.g. of aluminium between dies a and b so that the depth of the packing i.e. the triangular part is greater than the thickness of the original sheet. The packing is then detached from its sheet by passing between flat dies or rollers which shear it away at the edges. In forming a gasket with parts of varying thickness, the male die is widened on these parts to force more metal into a deeper triangular section.
