Abstract

272,336. Marks, E. C. R., (Williams Oil- OMatic Heating Corporation). June(3, 1926. Thermal switches; mercury switches.-A temperature - control device, particularly suitable for use in liquid fuel burning systems, comprises a coiled bimetallic strip 7 adapted to be inserted e.g. in a stack leading from the furnace, and adapted upon variation of temperature to rotate a toothed wheel 9 in one ,direction or the other and thereby move a tiltable mercury switch 11 on or off. Weights such as 16, 17, assisted if necessary by springs 19, 20 restore the mercury switch to a horizontal position and the arrangement is such that when .once the mercury switch has reached an extreme position such as that shown in Fig. 3, further rotation of the wheel 9 produces no effect, the teeth of the wheel slipping past the nose 15 of the mercury switch carrier, but when the bimetallic strip 7 moves in the reverse direction, the nose 15 is at once positively engaged and the mercury switch immediately thrown over into its other position.
