Abstract

272,306. Andrew, N. P., Macfie, W. L., and Rose, R. W. March 15, 1926. Machines for applying corner stays to boxes. The staying material is fed to a box on the anvil A by feed rollers D, E, intermittingly actuated by gearing operated by a reciprocatory toothed rack F, and the feed rollers &c. are carried by the anvil and the rack is connected to its reciprocating means in such manner that when the anvil is adjusted to suit the depth of box being stayed, the rack is corresponding moved to vary the extent of its operative movement and so feed the correct length of staying material. As shown the feed rollers &c. are mounted on an extension A<1> of the anvil and the rack F. which is geared to the feed rollers through one-way clutches K, N, is slidably mounted in a block A<2> on the extension A<1> and at its upper end carries a pin F' slidable in a slotted arm G pivoted to the machine frame at G<1> and operated by an eccentric I from the shaft C; the free end of the arm G may be guided in a fixed member G<2>. The upper feed roller E and its gear wheel are carried by a pivoted arm E<2> and the pressure between the rollers may be adjusted through the medium of a spring and nut E<4>. The rod H connecting the arm G and eccentric I may have an adjustable stop collar H<3> for adjusting the rack F independently of the adjustment caused by movement of the anvil.
