Abstract

271,993. Pollard, A. F. C. April 15, 1926. Microscopes.-A microscope objective changer consists of two members, one of which is fixed to the microscope and the other to the objective. These members are positioned by six bearing surfaces co-operating with six bearing points to enable the objective to be readily removed and replaced in precisely the same position without unnecessary elastic strain of the co-operating parts of the changer, and without the action of springe or clamping screws. The disc A, Fig. 4, is adapted to be secured to the microscope tube by an adapter, and preferably carries the six 'bearing surfaces for the bearing points on the other member. The axis of the disc is at an angle of about 20‹ to the axis of the instrument, so that in removing the objective the lens is lifted away from the slide, or so that, should contact be made with the lens and the slide, the objective is raised thereby and avoids damage. Of the six bearing points on the objective member, Fig. 2, the point f bears on the lower front of the face of the disc A, the point bc on the two faces of the notch B, the points de on machined flats on the back of the disc A, and the point a on the periphery. These points are formed of set screws with rounded points, so the adjustment of the optical axis &c. of the objective may be accurately effected.
