Abstract
271,188. Thomson, J. A. March 8, 1926. Vehicle lamps, directing; anti-vibration devices. - A supplementary swivelling headlamp 2, preferably mounted on a bracket 6 fixed to the frame 4 below the usual headlamps, is adapted to be rotated from the steering-gear at a faster rate than the front wheels by means of a pivoted lever 16, provided at one end with teeth engaging a toothed member 12 on the lamp spindle 7 and connected at the other end by a rod 19 and springs 24, 25 with the steering-arm 21. The movement of the lever 16 is limited by stops 23, the springs 24, 25 permitting further movement of the steering-gear. The spring 24 is connected at one end by a bolt and nuts 28 to the lever 16 and at the other end by a split pin 26 to the rod 19. One end of the spring 25 is passed through a split pin 29 and engaged in a notch 30 in the rear end of the rod 19 and the other end is secured, together with the arm 21, to a bolt 31 having a head 32 slidable on the rod 19. The latter comprises a turnbuckle or the like for adjusting the length. The spindle 7 is connected to the bracket by means of lock-nuts 9 and an antivibration spring 11. A second lamp may be provided on the other side of the vehicle, the two lamps being connected for simultaneous operation. According to the Provisional Specification the stops 23 and springs 24, 25 are dispensed with, the lever 16 being disengaged from the member 12 to limit the rotation of the lamp.
