Abstract

Stands or supports.-A screw jack is attached to the centre of a front and/or rear cross frame member, either by means of a permanent pivot, in which case two jacks are used, or a bracket with a temporary fastening. A catch for the foot of the jack is provided on another cross member to retain the jack in inoperative. position. The jack may comprise a tube a enclosing a threaded.: spindle b and fitted with a nut c. The spindle has a foot f formed with toothed flanges d<1>, d<2> and a groove d<3>. The device is operated by means of. a tool e, Fig. 4, having a projection e<2>' on eachside which in conjunction with the teeth on the foot forms a ratchet and pawl. In a modification the nut c is omitted and a thread formed on the interior of the flanged part of the foot which is made a separate piece. As. shown in Fig. 1, the tube a is mounted by means of a pin g<1> in a tubular branch g of a sleeve h revolubly mounted on a transverse member j of the oar frame. In another mounting the square end of a pin inserted in the upper end of the tube a engages a square socket on the cross'member.
