Abstract

270,088. Rickets, W. J., and Smith, E. E. May 3, 1926. Throat-operated and like transmitters; microphones. - A member 6 in a telephone transmitter designed to bear against a part of a speaker effected by vibration of the vocal organs is made aperiodic, resilient and capable of accommodation to the contour of the influencing- surface, and actuates a movable electrode 3 through an enclosed deformable but incompressible sound-transmitting medium 7. The hollow pad 6 may be made wholly of rubber or mainly of rigid material, with a domed resilient membrane next to the speaker and a diaphragm connected to the movable electrode. The soundtransmitting medium consists of glycerine, brine, or other liquid with a low freezing-point, or spongy rubber with its interstices filled with liquid. The frame 5 enclosing the microphone is carried by a support 9 which rests on the speaker's head.
