Abstract
269,393. Campbell, G. Sept. 1, 1926. Press - button switches; switches, latching and unlatching.-A vehicle. direction indicator comprises two manually-operated switches associated with individual signalling circuits and with common locking means which locks either switch in its " on " position, these locking means being disengaged by the steering mechanism when the latter is returned to " straight." The switch casing 2 is supported by an arm 3 on the dashboard 4 and may be adjusted by means of knuckles 6, 7 and rounded nuts 9. The switches 11, 12 are mounted in the front 10 of the casing and close contacts 15. Each switch has a portion 25 having a conical face and a shoulder to coact with a plate 18 which is slotted at 19 to pivot about points 20 or 21. A spring 22 is connected at one end to this plate and at the other end 23 to the cover 10. If the left-hand switch 11 is depressed its conical face 25 swings the plate 18 clockwise about the pivot 20 and this plate then snaps in behind the shoulder of part 25 locking the switch " on." The steering wheel 1 carries lugs 28, 29 co-operating with a pin 30 on the plate 18. When the wheel is swung to the left the pin 29 wipes past the pin 30 rocking the plate 18 about the pivot 21 without unlocking the switch 11. On the return of the wheel to the right the pin 29 rocks the plate 18 about the pivot 20 releasing the switch 11 which is returned by its spring 16. If the wheel is not turned sufficiently for the pin 29 to wipe past the pin 30 the plate 18 may be released by hand by means of the pin 30. A pilot light 31 showing through a window 32 is used to indicate if the switch has acted properly, the battery circuit of this lamp being closed by means of a relay 33 in series with the usual indicator 36
