Abstract

269,319. Wood, W. R. April 1, 1926. Impact pulverizers.-In a mill in which a rotor throws the material against a casing from which it is reflected back on to the rotor, the whole air current which carries the fine material out of the casing is caused to pass from below the rotor upwardly around its periphery, and then inwardly to an axial exhaust above the rotor. The rotor is shaped as a disc of dished or bowl shape, and its receiving surface is a free surface and wholly or in part of abrasive material. As shown, the circular dish a is mounted on a shaft c to rotate at high speed within the casing b, the upper part of which curves inwards towards the centre of the dish and is cast with an internal dished ring f the under surface of which has substantially the same curvature as the upper surface of the dish a. Fan-blades g on a dish a operate in the conical lower portion of the casing b. The coal &c. is fed from a hopper down a shoot o, coaxial with the axial outlet pipe h, and is distributed on the dish a by a cone l. The part of the casing above the dish is of diminishing cross-section in upward direction, the diameter of the smallest cross-section being much less than that of the rotor.
