Abstract

268,911. Turner, G. Jan. 27, 1926. Inductances.- Multi-layer inductance coils in which the layers are spaced apart by strips permanently retained in the winding are constructed of smaller diameter by locating the second ring of spacing strips on the second coil layer and between the strips on the preceding layer, subsequent strips being either located in a similar manner or in superposed reaction to the second ring of strips. Sufficient tension may be applied to the winding to force the strips on to the former. In one arrangement, Fig. 3, the first layer 2 is applied direct on the former1 and spacing strips 3 are located thereon. The second layer 2<a> is then wound and strips 3a located thereon between the strips 3. The winding is continued with layers 2b - - and strips 3b - - some of the subsequent strips being directly positioned above those of the immediately preceding layer. In another arrangement, Fig. 4, the former has integral ribs 4 between which the strips 3a - - are located. The coils may be tapped, and two coils may be wound together or separately to form a high frequency transformer.
