Abstract
268,381. Mayer & Schmidt, Schleifmaschinen und Schmirgelwerk Akt.- Ges. March 26, 1926, [Convention date]. Disc apparatus.-Apparatus for grinding the faces of the guides or jaws for the axle boxes of locomotives consists of a frame 1 supported on the rails beneath the locomotive and carrying a vertically adjustable member 2 on which is pivoted at 4 a lever 5. The lever carries casings 6 in which are mounted grinding-rings 8, the casings being adjustable along the lever, and the rings 8 being adjustable axially by hand wheels 11 and driven by belting from a motor 15 on the frame 1; the belt passes round pulleys 13 on the lever 5 and round pulleys 14 on the grinding shafts 7. In operation, the apparatus is adjusted so that one ring operates on a jaw on one longitudinal frame of the locomotive and tne other ring operates on the corresponding jaw of the other longitudinal frame, and the lever is oscillated, either by hand or by a crank gear 16 driven by the motor 15 to move the rings over the faces of the jaws.
