Abstract
267,656. Neilson, T., and Marshall, J. Jan. 15, 1926. Ventilators.-A device for supplying water under pressure comprises a casing rotatably mounted in the wall of an air duct and having one or more tubular passages extending inwardly from the casing wall so as to be disposed entirely within the casing. The casing is adapted to be rotated by the passage of air through it, for which purpose fan blades 15, Fig. 1, may be provided or the tubular passages may be located as in Figs. 5 and 7 so that rotation is produced by the reaction of the issuing air jets, In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a hemi. spherical casing 9, provided with outlet nozzles 10, is mounted on a spindle 5 by means of a sleeve 12, which is secured to a ring 13 rotatably mounted on the spindle 5 between ball bearings 14. The slotted stationary plate 2 and rotating plate 6 of a hit-and-miss valve are fitted in the opening of the air duct 1, the plate 6 being mounted on a spindle 5, which is operable by a knob 8. A deflector 7 is secured to the inner end of the spindle 5. The casing 22, Fig. 5, is rotatably mounted in ball bearings 23, 24 on a sleeve 21 fitted on a spindle 20, and the limbs 25 of a spider extend radially from the casing wall to a ring 26. A sleeve 27 is provided at the lower end of the casing. Two nozzles 28 are arranged in the casing, and each is in the form of a venturi tube. The device illustrated in Fig. 7 is of similar construction to that shown in Fig. 5, but each nozzle consists of a tube 36, passing through the closed base of the casing 33, and entering the enlarged end of a venturi tube 37. A ring of slots 38 is provided around the casing. Air supplied to the duct 30 passes through the tubes 36, 37, and in issuing, effects the rotation of the casing. The passage of air from the tubes 36 to the tubes 37 induces a flow of air into the slots 38. A valve 39 may be provided in the duct 30.
