Machines for making; driving-arrangements.- A braided sash or other cord in which each strand passes first under and then over two other strands and all the strands move spirally round the cord in the same general direction is produced on a machine comprising a spider 2 mounted on a bearing-sleeve 5 carrying a table 14 for spools 16 and rotated by gearing 7, 8. The strands from the spools 16 pass up through hollow axles of pinions 19 journaled in the spider 2 and through fliers 18, carried by the pinions 19, which mesh with a stationary ring gear 43. One pinion carries a bevel gear 44 which meshes with a bevel gear 45 on a central ported disc 28. Gears 40 on stationary stub axles mesh with an annular gear 41 formed integral with the spider 2 and also with a ported ring 30 supported on balls 36. The ring 30 and the disc 28 are thus rotated in opposite directions and the space between forms a race for carriers 24 of spools 26. The ends of these carriers engage extensions 33 of the pinions 19 which thus drive the spools 26 round in unison with the spools 16. The ends 33 are cut away as shown in Fig. 8 to allow the fliers 18 to pass. The ports in the ring 30 and in the disc 28 are for the same purpose.
