Abstract

.266,825. Cooper, C., Henshaw, D. M., and Holmes & Co., Ltd. W. C. Dec. 5, 1925. Drying gases.-Fuel gases are dried, immediately prior to their admission into furnaces &c., by intimate contact with hygroscopic or waterabsorbing liquids, such as a solution of calciumchloride, which may be regenerated either intermittently or continuously, the temperature of the gases remaining substantially constant. The gases pass through a drying tower 1 from an inlet '2 to an outlet 3 in the opposite direction to that of the absorbent liquid which is distributed by a perforated pipe 5 which communicates with a hopper 4 containing a vessel which overturns on becoming full. The spent liquid is withdrawn from the tower by a pump 7 and discharged into a perforated tray 10 which distributes the liquid over the steam-heated regenerator pipes 11. The 'liquid thence flows into a tank 14 from which it is withdrawn by a pump 16 and forced through a cooling-coil 17 and a pipe 18 to the tilting vessel in the hopper 4. The drying tower is packed with a suitable material or provided with perforated trays. Specification 162,116, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.], and 248,841 are referred to.
