Abstract

266,581. Smith, H. J., and Clark Manufacturing Co. June 7, 1926. Crossheads. - A jack applicable for removing a pistonrod C from its crosshead a is secured to the crosshead by wedges B. The jack is of the screw-actuated wedge type having the wedge provided with anti-friction means such as cage-mounted rollers. A leverbar operated screw 2 is eccentrically mounted in a frame 1 so that the thrust of the wedge is taken by the thickest part of the frame, the wedge 10 having a swivelling connection 8 to the screw. The wedge slides in a correspondingly shaped recess in the frame and is fitted with cage-mounted rollers 14 on both sides, the ram 19 engaging the part C by means of spacing members 20. The lower set of rollers may be replaced by rollers mounted in recesses in the ram.
