Rollers, treating.-In a machine for grinding rollers, in which the roller is supported upon centres 12, 13, and ground by a grinding-wheel mounted upon a reciprocating carriage C, the ways 20, 21 upon which the carriage slides have downwardly sloping diverging sides 29, 30, whereby foreign material will fall therefrom into channels 25 - - 28 at the sides of the ways; a lubricant also is supplied to the ways whereby these are cleansed of foreign matter. The carriage has bearing-surfaces 32, 33 fitting the ways, and also has therein openings 34, 35 through which pass guards 22, 23 for the ways, the guards being supported at their ends. The ways are supported on a bed 10 and each way has therein a longitudinal channel 42, closed at one end to receive lubricant through a pipe 55, and inlet 58, from a pump 54. A central longitudinal rib 43 and transverse ribs 45 are formed in the channel and in the rib 43 are ducts 46 whereby the lubricant is fed to the sloping sides of the way, a channel 47 being formed in the way to distribute the lubricant, which, after flowing down the sides of the ways returns along the channels 25 - - 28 and through openings 49, 50 in the bed, to a trough 51, from which it is withdrawn by the pump 54.
