Abstract
266,038. Jofeh, R., and Alexander, G., (Administrators of Jofeh, J. M.). Nov. 13, 1925. Testing coins.-In coin-freed apparatus for use with milled edged coins, the milled coin rolling out of a shoot, 14 is arrested by a pin 47 extending from a bell-crank lever 48 controlled by a spring 51. The milling of the coin is engaged by knife edges 36, 35 carried respectively by a slide 25 and by a lever 37 pivoted to the slide. Normally the slide is retracted by a, spring 40 and the knife edge 35 is held above the coin by an incline 45 on the inner end of the. lever 37 engaging a. fixed pin 46. When the slide 25 is drawn out by pulling a knob 28, first the lever 37 is pulled down by a spring 147 so that the knife edge 35 engages the coin, and then the knife edges carry the coin forward against the resistance of the pin 47 to a position over a shoot 53 leading to the releasing mechanism. In this position, an incline 43 on the other end of the lever 37 engages a pin 44 to raise the lever 37 and allow the coin to drop down the shoot 53. The downward movement of the lever 37 is limited by an adjustable screw 49. The coins, before entering the shoot 14, are tested for diameter and rigidity of material. They are first guided by a shoot 20 to a laterally and downwardly inclined shoot consisting of two opposed members 4, 9 of channel section, the upper member 9 being pivoted at 10 and held down by a spring 11. Coins of slightly too large diameter stick in the portion a, b of the shoot, while coins of too small diameter fall out sideways in the portion b, c. Discs of lead or other soft material are arrested by a sharp edged member pivoted to the upper portion 9 of the shoot. The normal distance apart of the members 4, 9 is adjusted by a screw 17 on the member 9 engaging a fixed stop 16. The member 9 is raised to clear the shoot of rejected coins and discs each time the knob 28 is pulled by a link 31 connected to the member 9 at 33 and to the slide 25 at 32.
