[Class 27] In a coin-testing machine of the type in which the coin &c. strikes a rebound surface and the subsequent path of the coin determines its acceptance or rejection, the anvil comprises a fixed sloping surface 25 at the bottom of a recess 23. A wall 24 at the front of the surface 25 forms 'an abutment over which an accepted coin jumps to roll down a slope 26 to an "accept" passageway. A coin having insufficient resilience lies in the recess 23, and is rejected sideways by a cranked plate 22 fixed to a yoke 21 rockable about a spindle and operated manually by a push button or by the opening of a drawer &c. The yoke 21 has hinged to it a counter-balanced coin-gripping device consisting of pivoted claws 14, 15 of which the claw 15 is moved to release the coin, when the device has been tipped to the vertical position by the weight thereof, by an extension 17 thereon striking against an adjustable abutment 18. An arm 29 guides the falling coin to the right point on the anvil, and the plate 22 may form a closed channel to prevent a genuine coin turning over sideways in its fall and tumbling into the "reject" passage.
