Abstract
304,014. Ellman, S. Jan. 2, 1928. Testing coins.-The coin-shoot 13, 14 directs a coin of normal weight and size past. a weighttesting hanger arm 28 to a pair of horizontal knife-edges 41, 36 forming rim-grips. The ooerating handle 24 moves the rim-grips so as to draw the coin beneath a spring-pressed bar 33 acting vertically to dislodge a coin with unmilled or badly worn edge, and moves the upper member 14 of the coin-shoot about its pivot 15 so as to dislodge any coin which has been stopped in the shoot bv the arm 28. The lower member 13 of the coin-shoot is formed with a V-groove 25, and the upper with a channel groove 26 so that coins of less than the normal thickness or diameter fall sideways from the shoot. As shown in Fig. 1, the handle 24 is connected by a pull-rod 23 with a lever 20 pivoted at 21. A pin 19 on the lever engages the curved arm 17 of a bell-crank lever 16, 17 on the spindle of the member 14 for opening the coin-shoot against the action of a spring 18. The lower end of the lever 20 is connected with a spring 40<a> and with a bar 40 which carries one @@@ @e-edge 41. The second knife-edge 36 is carried by a rocking arm 38 which is normally held to a stop 39 by a spring. The arm 38 is engaged at an intermediate point by a projection 42 on the bar 40 after the coin has been drawn past the rejector bar 33 so as to open the knife-edges and drop the coin into the delivery shoot 32. The depth of the coin-shoot is regulated by a screw stop on the pivoted member 14. In a modification (Figs. 3 and 6, not shown) the bar 40 is replaced by a lever arranged substantially parallel with the lever 20 and connected with it by a link and a single spring replaces the two springs 18, 40<a>.
