Abstract

265,567. Soc. of Chemical Industry in Basle. Feb. 2, 1926, [Convention date]. Medicines for internal use. - Extracts from female organs, or distillates from such extracts, such as an extract from ovaries prepared in accordance with Specification 226,372, are purified by treatment with a solution of alkali in water or an organic solvent with exclusion of oxygen. According to an example the ovary extract is dissolved in alcohol and, whilst maintained in an atmosphere of hydrogen, alcoholic potash is added. Excess of potash is neutralized bv introducing carbon dioxide, the alcohol is distilled off in a vacuum, and the active material in the residue is extracted with acetone, leaving the alkali soaps undissolved. The active product is obtained as an oil by evaporating the acetone.
