Abstract

265,506. Reed, C. E. Nov. 2 1925. Borehole apparatus. -A rotary cutter for well drilling comprises a large diameter main portion 35 and a comparatively thin ring 33, with cutting teeth, rotatable on the body and inserted therewith into the cutter head 1 as a unit, a removable pin 40 holding the assembly in place. The recess in the cutter head is upwardly and inwardly inclined. The main portion 35 is transversely divided, the parts being in contact or otherwise, and supports a wear ring 34 held against rotation as by lugs 38 polygonal bore etc.; the portions of the main body have shoulders 41 engaging shoulders in the cutter head to take thrust and hold the main body against rotation. The cutter ring 33 and wear ring 34 may be cylindrical or frusto-conical. In a modification the wear ring is omitted. Specification 265,274 is referred to.
