Coal-cutting machines.- In a tool adapted to cut forwards and sideways and comprising an arbor a, toothed rings c threaded on the arbor to form a long spirally toothed cutter and a central cutter e securing the rings, a sleeve. j, preferably flanged internally, engages an angular enlargement h on the arbor and is held by a lock nut g in engagement with a lug n or recess in the rear cutter ring, so as to hold the cutter rings against rotation. Each cutter ring has on one side a distorted annular recess o which receives the central cutter e or a sleeve p and lug n on an adjacent cutter ring, so as to prevent relative rotation. The arbor may be of angular cross section throughout, and the toothed rings correspondingly formed ; the recesses and projections on the toothed rings may then be dispensed with.
