Abstract
265,086. Fornaca, G. Sept. 1, 1926. Springs, arrangement of.-Combined driving and steering wheels driven by cardan shafts have their steering swivels each connected to the frame-. by a linkage including two arms pivotally connected to the frame and to the swivel bearing, the arms being so shaped as substantially to enclose the shafts. The steering swivel 6, Fig. 1, is carried by a casing 7 pivoted for steering in a bearing member 9 pivoted at 11 to arms 10 of channel section. The arms oscillate on blocks 14 carried on the frame 18, and are held against the blocks by bolts 12 and springs 13, a lining 15 of frictional material being interposed between the blocks and arms. The shaft 2, enclosed by the arms 10, is connected by a universal joint to a shaft 3 which is mounted in the swivel 6 and is keyed at 4 to the. wheel-hub. The suspension com. prises a transverse spring 20 secured at its centre to the frame and shackled at its ends to the bearings members 9. In the modification shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the suspension springs 20<1> are also enclosed by the arms 10. These springs comprise single plate springs, each secured at one end to the frame and sliding at the other end in a guide 21 carried by one of the arms 10. The springs 20<1> taper in width from the frame towards the wheel.
