Vapour apparatus. arrangements of.-In mercury-vapour apparatus with a starting electrode directly mounted on the free end of a bi-metallic strip as in the parent Specification, an indicating device is associated with the starting circuit to indicate continuously the operation of the apparatus. In an arrangement for rectifying both halfwaves of alternating current, the two anodes are connected by leads h to the secondary of the supply transformer, the mid-point of the secondary is connected to the cathode i through the apparatus u to be supplied with rectified current, and the starting electrode a is supplied through an auxiliary winding k or through a separate transformer or through both. If a maintaining circuit is employed, the electrode a may be used as a maintaining anode with a fuse or other current-limiting device in its circuit. A relay z in the starting circuit may break a short-circuit across a resistance r in series with an indicating lamp w when current is flowing in the starting circuit, the lamp w burning normally when the main arc is operating and less brightly during starting.
