Abstract
264,632. Ciment, F. Nov. 19, 1925. Pleating.-Fabrics are pleated by being interposed between a die and a soft damp pad, to which pressure is applied by an electricallyheated member 3, Fig. 1, of a press. The fabric is placed on the die, which is arranged on the lower member 8 of the press and a pad of felt saturated with water is placed on the fabric. Pressure is now applied by worm gearing 9, the material at the same time being subjected to a damp heat due to the member 3 and the felt pad, so that the pleating remains permanent when the material has dried. The heating device consists of a number of resistance elements 13, Figs. 2 and 3, in grooves 14 in a backing of asbestos sheets 16, the elements being connected in series by terminals 18 so that if one element burns out it can be replaced easily. The elements 13 are covered bv mica sheets 12 to the outside of which is fixed by bolts 17 a plate 11 of brass, aluminium, or other heat-conducting material which forms the operative face of the press member 3.
