Abstract

264,467. Renault, L. Jan. 18, 1926, [Convention date]. Shaft couplings; securing toothed wheels on shafts. - In resilient transmission couplings for power-driven road and rail vehicles, aircraft, &c., the stroke of the springs for a given angular displacement of the driving and driven members is increased by multiplying gear. A gear-wheel 16, Fig. 5, loosely mounted on the propeller shaft of an aeroplane and driven by an engine-shaft pinion (not shown) drives a member 18, fast on the propeller shaft, by axial levers 20 and springs 25. The end 24 of each lever engages between a pair of springs, the short arm being formed by a surface 21 eccentric to the pivot 19. The eccentric 21 has a spherical periphery to engage a complementary pair of shoes (not shown) which are received in a recess 23 in the wheel 16. The multiplication-ratio in this form may reach 30. Figs. 6 and 7 show means for obtaining still higher ratios. The springs 33 are compressed between lugs 34 on the driven member 18 and arms 32 integral with a loose pinion 31, which meshes with radial toothed sectors 27, pivoted on the member 18 and provided with eccentric hubs 28, engaging shoes lodged in recesses 30 in the driving-wheel 16. A fibre or like friction disc 35 may be interposed between the parts 31, 18, which are pressed together by a spring 36. In both forms, the normal driving-springs may be more flexible than those operative when the driven shaft drives. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a simple form in which the longer arms 10<1> of radial levers 10, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), pivoted at 9 on a drum 8 secured to the driven shaft, engage recesses 7<1> in the driving-shaft 7. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
