Abstract

264,436. Bolt, W. H., and Shuttleworth, F. Nov. 13, 1926. Stays for casement windows and doors comprise a bar A that is rotatable about its longitudinal axis into one or other of two positions when the window or door is shut or nearly so, the opening movement of the window being limited to an extent fixed for ventilating purposes with the stay-bar in one position, and when the stay-bar is in its other position the window may be opened widely, the axial turning movement of the stay from one position to the other being prevented when the window is opened beyond a predetermined distance. The bar A is ball-jointed at a to a bracket B and is slidable through a guide member C having a clamping screw C<2>. The stay-bar is formed with longitudinal slots a<3>, a<4> that are adapted to be engaged by the clamping screw, and a reduced portion a<2>. When the window is closed so that the guide C engages the part a<2>, the bar may be axially rotated until either of the grooves a<3>, a<4> is in alinement with the key c, Fig. 7. The short groove a<4> provides for a limited opening movement of the window for ventilating purposes and the longer groove a<3> provides for the window being opened widely.
