Abstract

264,182. Graissage Alcyl, Soc. Anon., (Assignees of Koehler, M.) Jan. 11, 1926, [Convention date]. Capillary-action lubricating.-In a lubricating system as described in Specification 259,567. wherein lubricant is supplied from a tank to a number of distant parts by branched capillary elements, the feed through each element is regulated by exercising pressure on the element so as to vary the cross-section of the capillary ducts therein. This is effected by compressing elements of definite size in calibrated orifices of given diameters. Alternatively, the feed through a capillary element b<1>, Fig. 1, arranged in a bore in a member a<1> is regulated by an adjustable screw d<1> having a tapered end c'. The member a<1> is screwed into a member e<1>, through a conduit f in which the element b<1> passes. Between the member e<1> and a. tread on the member a<1> is held a flat metallic member g<1> having one or more tubular extensions k<1>, each of which is secured on the end of a tube l' containing a capillary element h<1>, which latter is wound round the member a<1> and is connected to the element b<1>, which passes through a hole q<1> in the member a<1>. The sleeve k' is secured to the tube l<1> by driving a small tapered tube m<1>, which may be threaded into the end of the tube, thereby expanding it against the cylindrical or tapered internal surface of the sleeve. The tube l<1> may be made of braided cotton and varnished, or varnish may be applied directly to the capillary element to form an adherent protective coating. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that such a tube m<1> may be used for securing a tube l<1> in a member k<1> as shown in Fig. 6 (Cancelled), a pointed rod or needle p<2> being provided to determine the flow. Alternatively, the feed may be regulated by an adjustable collar surrounding the capillary tube. The tank may be arranged below the capillary elements and at or below the level of the points to be lubricated, so that flow of lubricant from the elements occurs only when an external force, such as the friction of the parts to be lubricated, is applied thereto. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
