Abstract
264,158. Cevolani, E., Jan. 9, 1926, [Convention date]. Treadle mechanism.-Two treadle levers oscillating oppositely about the axis of the driving wheel are adapted to impart a continuous rotary motion to the wheel by means of two independent epicyclic gears combined with ratchet mechanism. Fig. 1 shows a horizontal section through half the hub, the other half being identical. The two treadle levers 17<1> on opposite sides oscillate about the through axle 24 and are connected to one another by a cable passing over a pulley so that the depression of one lever raises the other. Each lever 17<1> is secured to a hollow spindle 16<1>, the inner end of which is provided with covers carrying the planet pinions 18<1> which engage on the outside with a non-rotating internally toothed wheel 11<1> and on the inside with a pinion 20<1>. The wheel 11<1> is formed in a cupshaped member 10<1> having a tubular stem 9<1> which extends to the outside of the hub shell and' is secured to the cycle frame forks 13<1>. The pinion 20<1> is secured to and rotates a part 22<1> carrying ratchet pawls 23' which engage internal ratchet teeth on a ring 3 secured to the hub shell 1. The various concentric parts from the end covers 2<1> of the hub 1 to the fixed axle 24 are separated by ball bearings.
