Stoppers, spring. - A closure for receptacles comprises a cap provided with a knurled or milled flange g, Fig. 2, adapted to encircle the upper part of the lid d of the receptacle and two or more extensions b, h adapted to engage the underside of the lip, the extensions being smooth and curled in prior to emplacement on the receptacle and one of them, h, serving as means for removing the cap. The circumferential lengths of the extensions are together equal to about one half of the circumference of the cap, the angle subtended at the centre of the cap by one extension being between 90‹ and 135‹, and that subtended by the other extension or extensions being between 30‹ and 60‹. The preferred angles are 117‹ and 60‹ respectively. In a modification, the cap a, Fig. 5, is stiffened by raising its edge to form a beading z and an annular recess x formed on the underside of the cap adjacent the heading z accommodates a packing ring w. A groove of constant or varying depth and extending for a part or all the circumference may be provided near the edge of the cap to bear on the packing ring. One extension c is provided with an extended portion v which is turned outwards to permit of the insertion of a coin or tool for removing the cap. The cap may be sealed by a band having its ends secured by a tongue and slit device and its upper and lower edges rolled over in known manner. The cap is made in two operations consisting in blanking and drawing with the usual combination tool and knurling and curling the flange and extensions on an ordinary beading machine.
