Abstract

Cut-out arrangements.-In order to ensure the opening of a feeder circuit-breaker 9 when a highspeed breaker 4 opens, on a fault occurring, and inserts a current-limiting resistance 5 in the circuit; an auxiliary coil 13 is provided to assist the overload coil 11 to open the feeder breaker, the coils 13 being connected in parallel across the whole or a part of the resistance 5. The mains are connected to a source and have a normal speed breaker 3 in the + lead, which is connected to the bus-bar 6, the high-speed breaker being in the - lead. On the occurrence of a fault in, for example, feeder T, the breaker 4 opens and inserts the resistance 5, so cutting down the current, which may not be strong enough to bring out the breaker 9. Owing to the P.D. across the resistance 5 the auxiliary coils are energized to assist the ordinary coils, but only in the feeder (in this case, 7) carrying the abnormal current will the combined effect be strong enough to open the breaker 9. The coil 13 is arranged to be disconnected when the feeder breaker opens.
