263,582. Richardsons, Westgarth, & Co., Ltd., and Swallow, M. G. S. Oct. 30, 1925. Mounting and supporting- -Steam turbine cylinders adapted to slide by expansion on their bed-plates are mounted so that each cylinder is maintained in the same axial position but is free to expand in all directions from a fixed point within the cylinder 'located midway between two transverse aligned keyways which provide for the lateral expansion of one of the cylinders. Fig. 1 shows a lowpressure cylinder 2 supported on bed-plates 5 by brackets 4, transversly arranged keys 6 preventing longitudinal movement and allowing lateral movement. A vertical key 10 prevents lateral movement of the cylinder axis. Transverse keys 15, with or without an additional key 20, connect the high-pressure cylinder 3 to an extension of the low-pressure cylinder, and allow independent transverse expansion. Longitudinal expansion is provided for by an expansion 22 of the cylinder 3 sliding in guides on the bed-plate. In a modification, on each side of the cylinder 2 is provided a bracket constructed as a key slidable both transversely and vertically in a bed-plate bracket.
