263,315. Glenn, S. L., and Pierce, E. E. Jan. 16, 1926. Electromagnets.- For preventing chattering, an alternating-current electromagnet, is formed with a recess in the face of the fixed core 2 in which there are fitted a sparking-ring 5 and a shaded core 6. The ring 5 may be cut from a piece of copper tubing. To diminish eddy currents, a saw cut is made through the faces of the cores 2 and 6 and two saw cuts at right angles in the face of the moving core 3. The arrangement may be used for valves such as those described in Specification 269,640, [Class 135, Valves &c.].
