Sliding switch-carriage arrangements. - An electric switch which with its fixed and movable contacts is removable from a fixed part carrying sockets and terminals and which contains an auxiliary device the circuit of which is not broken by the switch contacts is provided with means for breaking automatically the circuit of the auxiliary device by mechanical operation when the removal of the switch takes place. The oil switch shown in Fig. 1 having a bridging bar 5 co-operating with fixed contacts 4 is arranged to be lowered from the fixed part 1 containing sockets 2 normally engaged by plug members 13 connected to the contacts 4. Across two of the contacts 4 corresponding to different phases a potential transformer 18 is adapted to be connected, 'the circuit being completed at switch contacts 23, 24. The movable contact 24 is carried by a sliding rod 28 projecting through the tank 15 and arranged to be engaged by a part 30 when the switch is moved into position, so bring- ing the contact 24 into engagement with its corresponding contact 23. On withdrawal of the switch the spring 29 causes the transformer circuit to be broken at contacts 23, 24. Altematively the switch 23, 24 may be opened on lowering the main switch by a mechanical connection between the parts 28, 30 which is automatically disengaged after the isolating contacts have separated. The auxiliary switch may be arranged as a switch-fuse by pivoting one end 32 of the fuse 22 and connecting its other end to the switching rod 28. The arrangement may also be suitably modified in cases where the switch is withdrawn in a horizontal direction.
