Abstract
262,646. Graves, A. M. April 23, 1926. Springs, arrangement of.-A spring arranged under compression between the body and axle of a vehicle so as to be free to expand on occurrence of relative movements of the body and axle from a neutral position, is rigidly attached at its ends to the body and axle. In the case of a front axle suspension as shown, the spring 1 is mounted on bosses 4 of seats 2, 3, its end coils being secured by inturned marginal flanges 5 of the seats. The seats are riveted at 7, 14 to plates 6, 16 which are secured to the frame F and axle A respectively. The plate 16 is formed with side-flanges 17 engaging grooves 19 in a pair of plates 18 clamped to the axle by bolts 21. A similar arrangement is applied to the rear axle, the end fittings of the spring being modified. To hold the spring in compression during fitting, a rod 42, Fig. 5, is pased through a central aperture in the seat 3 and screwed into the seat 2, the spring being held compressed by a nut 44.
