Abstract

262,002. Bauer, G., and Schmieske, C. June 1, 1926. Hydraulic transmission of power.- Hydraulic couplings for driving accumulator pumps in hydro-electric installations, are automatically filled and emptied in dependence on the load on the driving turbine. The coupling 10, Fig. 1, has a primary member 11, Fig. 2, mounted on the shaft of an electric generator 3 driven by a tur. bine 1, and when wholly or partially filled its secondary member 13 drives a pump 6 lifting water to a reservoir 7 for subsequent use in a turbine 8 driving a generator 9. Water is admitted through a pipe 15 to the coupling through an inlet valve, controlled by a governor operated from the generator 3. When the load on the generator is greater than normal, the inlet valve is closed, and an auxiliary valve 23 closes a port 29 by which pressure liquid normally passes through a pipe 28 to act on the outlet valve to keep it closed. The outlet valve then opens and the coupling empties. In order to prevent overheating, a continuous stream of water is maintained by means of outlet apertures 35 and inlet apertures not controlled by the inlet valve,
