Abstract

261,664. Kordt, O. Aug. 4, 1926. Ball and like mills.- Grinding-bodies for use in ball, drum, and tubular mills are of approximately equal diameter both vertically and transversely and are formed with flattened and plain surfaces angularly disposed to one another. The bodies may be of cubical shape with sharp or rounded edges. Fig. 3 shows a cubical body with all its edges rounded so as to form circular plain faces c; and Fig. 4 shows a globular body with six plain surfaces d. The main portion of the body may be a parallelopipedon having head portions shaped as obelisks. Fig. 7 shows a body with its main portion shaped as a six-sided prism i and the head portions limited each by six pentagons k and a hexagon m. In Fig. 9, the six-sided main portion of the body is limited by two squares n and four hexagons o, the head portions being roof-shaped and having two oblique and hexagonal surfaces p with rounded edges and two quadrangles q. In another modification, Fig. 11, the middle portion of the grinding-body r is cylindrical and has both its ends roof-shaped or tapered, forming at each end two oblique surfaces s at an angle. The grinding bodies may be of steel &c., and are particularly applicable for the fine grinding of Portland cement.
