Abstract

Rotary interrupters for use in connection with electromedical apparatus &c. are arranged as shown in Fig. 1 with a number of interconnected concentric contact rings on a rotary insulating plate 1 the inner ring 2 being continuous, and the outer rings 3 - - 5 being formed of varying numbers of segments so that the speed of the current interruptions may be varied. An adjustable brush 16 carried by a fixed arm 14 bears on the ring 2 and an adjustable brush 16a is carried by an arm 20 arranged so that it may be swung laterally to engage one of the outer segmental contact rings 3, 4 or 5. As the contacts are connected together interruptions in the controlled circuit occur at a frequency depending upon the particular set of contacts employed and upon the speed of the disc which when driven as shown by a gramophone motor may be controlled by the speed-regulating device 11. Alternatively, the disc may be driven by a variable-speed electric motor. In a modified form the contacts may be arranged on the periphery of a rotating insulating cylinder. The contact segments may be formed of resistance wire so that a current surge is produced before each interruption.
