Abstract
660,751. Make-and-break switches, mechanical. MINSTER MACHINE CO. Sept. 30, 1949. No. 25240/49. Class 38 (v). A circuit is completed between a pair of contact brushes 35, 36 for an adjustable proportion of each revolution of a shaft 20, through a pair of rings 25, 26 having, respectively, conducting segments 28, 31 and non-conducting segments 29, 32. Each conducting segment extends through 180 degrees and the two segments are electrically connected through their abutting sides. The rings are clamped against an enlargement 21 on the shaft 20 by a friction locking nut 22 and hence, by slackening the latter, they may be relatively rotated to vary the proportion of closure from substantially zero when the segments 28, 31 are side by side, to approximately one half of the shaft revolution when they slightly overlap. A further pair of brushes, 35, 36 and rings may be provided as shewn whereby a further circuit may be controlled in desired relation to the first circuit. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shewn), associated rings 25, 26 are separated. by an insulating spacer and connected together by a pair of contact brushes mounted in the spacer and respectively pressing against the opposed sides of the segments 28, 31..
