Abstract

1,034,534. Rotary distributers. MINSTER MACHINE CO. June 5, 1964 [Nov. 20, 1963], No. 23522/64. Heading H2B. A rotary electric switch includes a shaft 12 which is driven by a sprocket 24 and a sleeve 36 which surrounds a reduced diameter portion 26 of the shaft. A knob 32 is slidably keyed to the sleeve 36 and carries a splined member 30 co-operating with another splined member 28 carried on the shaft 12. Pairs of rings e.g. 40, 42 are mounted on the shaft 12 and sleeve 36, each ring being of insulating material but having a part of its periphery formed of conducting material. These conducting parts on the rings of each pair are arranged in contact and each ring co-operates with a fixed contact brush 60 whereby current flows from one brush 60 associated with a certain ring to the brush 60 associated with the other ring of the pair only when both brushes 60 are in contact with the conducting parts on the peripheries of the rings. The duration of make and break can therefore be adjusted by suitably offsetting the conducting parts of the two rings of a pair. The time at which contact is made or broken is adjusted in the case of pairs of rings mounted on the shaft 22 by providing the brushes 60 in holders 58 which can slide along an arcuate support bar 68 and in the case of pairs of rings mounted on the sleeve 36 by pushing knob 32 inwards against spring 38 so as to disengage sleeve 36 from shaft 12 and then suitably rotating the sleeve.
