Abstract

261,037. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Ges. Nov. 7, 1925, [Convention date]. Rotary apparatus.-In apparatus for distributing water for irrigating by spraying in which one or more jets are projected in a radial direction from a nozzle head rotated by means of a vane wheel placed in front of the nozzle, the nature of the impact of the water upon the vane wheel is periodically varied by means of a curved member so as to obtain an irrigated area differing from a circle, for example a rectangle. Fig. 1 shows a form in which the nature of the impact of liquid from a rotating nozzle 1 upon the vane wheel 3 is varied by varying the admission of air through a pipe 6 by means of a cock 7 operated by a lever 8 engaged by a cam 10 on a fixed pipe 2. The nozzle is rotated by gearing 5 driven by a vane wheel 3 mounted in the path of the jet. In a modification, the height of the vane wheel is altered relatively to the jet by means of the cam mechanism. The air supply may be under pressure, or the nozzle may be so formed as to draw air into it, as by narrowing the throat of the nozzle and introducing air at the narrowed part. In the form shown in Fig. 5, an ejector body 13 opens into the rotating nozzle 1 and the fixed pipe 2 is provided with openings 15 through which air is drawn, the amount being varied during rotation by the lower edge of the nozzle being recessed at 16. An annular valve 17 controls the air inlets. In the form shown in Fig. 6, a second mouth piece 18 is mounted concentrically with the nozzle 1, the space between them forming an auxiliary water jet which may be regulated as in the other modifications. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the range of the water jets may be regulated by other means such as baffles or needle valves. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
