Abstract

260,191. Fejes, J. June 22. 1926. Addition to 205,508. Hollow - ware. - Joints for casings, particularly crank casings for internalcombustion engines, are described in the parent Specification as being formed by the insertion of fillets or projections irom one plate into a slot in a plate at right angles thereto, the edges of the slot consisting of ridges of substantially equal thickness to the inserted plate and being produced by grooving the plate on each side of the slot, the fillet and ridges being then welded together. Supplementary members consisting of screw or boltsockets having flanges for welding are also described. According to this Specification similar joints may be formed between a thin plate c and the edge of a thicker plate b. A groove b<2> is formed in the latter, leaving a ridge b<1> of substantially the same thickness as the plate c. By curving or indenting the adjoining surfaces, as shown for example in Fig. 3, the weld may be relieved of stresses parallel to the plate c. The bolt sockets or " nuts "A, Fig. 1, may be formed to penetrate the plate a and be united thereto by means of the welded groove and ridge formation described in the parent Specification.
